Breaking Ground on New Arts and Innovation Center
A foundation that will support generations.
St. Catherine’s officially broke ground for the new Arts and Innovation Center on January 21, 2021. Because of the pandemic, the celebration was scaled back to a small, recorded event.
Interim Head of School Lila Lohr was joined by Board Chair Macon Clarkson ’96 during the socially distanced event. Freshmen Camryn Gardner, Kathryn Price, seventh-grader Virginia Dean, sixth-grader Finley McElhaney, fourth grade Georgia Towsend and first-grader Ruth Mathenge all participated in the event along with Arts Coordinator Kendall Neely.
The AIC will feature a 550-seat, two-story theatre with tiered side balconies; 56′ Flytower to accommodate stage sets for flexible usage; three lighting catwalks, state-of-the-art acoustics, and a dedicated control booth; scene shop and Creativity Lab; expansive light-filled lobbies and flexible spaces for art galleries, wellness activities and community gatherings.
“We cannot wait to provide a space for our students to flourish, where we can once again enjoy live performances, a gathering community, and collaborate in flexible formats. That day is coming, and we will be ready.”
